Where is your camp located?
Camp Morasha is located in the picturesque northeastern Pocono Mountains. We are in the heart of Wayne County, about two-and-a half hours from New York City and Philadelphia.
Each modern, duplex cabin houses thirteen to fifteen campers with two counselors. Campers are grouped based on the grade. Each camper is able to make 3 bunkmate requests and we do our best to accommodate these requests while providing the important opportunity for each camper to meet new friends at camp. When payment arrangements, completed health forms and pharmacy insurance cards are submitted to us, you will receive a bunk assignment card and bus boarding pass. This will give you the information you need to tag your luggage properly when shipping. You must notify us if your child will be traveling to and from camp with us in order to reserve a seat (see enclosure). Campers will be required to present their cards before boarding the bus at departure time.
We understand that a camp is only as good as its staff and therefore choosing the ideal staff is a top priority for Camp Morasha. We hire highly motivated counselors, athletes, educators, and camping professionals, who come to us with spirit, a commitment to children, love for camp, and the recognition that every staff member is an educator and role model to our campers. All staff are interviewed extensively and are required to attend an intensive staff orientation. Our staff receives continued guidance throughout the summer from our experienced senior staff.
Children come to camp on air-conditioned, bathroom and video-equipped coach buses. Experienced staff members escort the campers on each bus. There is departure from the 5 Towns and Teaneck. Details on specific location may vary from year to year and is sent to each registered camper before camp begins.
Our campers and staff tell us our food is excellent! Meals are served by our waiting staff and campers sit by bunk. Each bunk is served by two waiters during the week and 1 waiter on Shabbat. We serve three well-balanced, child friendly meals each day. In addition to our chefs, we have a camp baker whose treats sweeten up our summer. We also serve a snack during the day, which include fresh fruit, cookies and juice. Canteen orders are submitted every morning and breakfast and delivered at rest period. Divisions often visit the canteen after night activity.
There is no day that is "typical" at Camp Morasha. Our daily schedule offers the perfect combination of education, sports, specialties, swimming and special programs. We want to provide every camper with an enjoyable, well-rounded and worthwhile total camp experience, while also developing their own skills. Every camper has one or two periods of formal education, taught by top educators from yeshiva day schools around the country. Camp offers a wide variety of sports and specialties so that there is something for everyone to enjoy. For a complete list of sports and specialties, click here. All campers receive swimming lessons in our heated pool and recreational free swim in our beautiful lake, where they practice their skills while cooling off. It is at the lake that they also enjoy our watersports, water trampoline, iceberg, boating, water volleyball, and much more. After every great day at camp, each division is treated to an amazing night activity, which can range from concerts to carnivals, crazy contests to color war.
Camp Morasha has become famous for it's special programming. If you just glance at our camp calendar (link), you will be astonished by the quantity and quality of our special events. We work very hard to create an environment and brings out the best of our campers and staff- where their skills, creativity, and spirit shines throughout the summer. Special events include Color War, Olympics, Gsquared, Shiria, Purim in July, DvD, Concerts, Carnival, Entertainment, Pay Day, Intercamps, and so much more!
There is a designated day called "Visiting Day" for all family members and friends to come visit camp. Visiting Day is always a great day for our campers and visitors, and usually lasts from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. We respectfully ask all parents to limit visitation to this day. Under no circumstances will unauthorized visitors be permitted on camp grounds on non-visiting days. Parents who cannot come on Visiting Day must call the office to arrange an alternate time. We respectfully request not to bring pets. This creates the ideal environment for our campers to overcome homesickness and strive in camp. Please be assured that we will be in touch with you should there be any issue with your child. You may also check on your child’s activities and view daily photos on our secure site. This is the best way to staying current with your camper during the summer! We post hundreds of photos and the latest news each day.
We encourage good, old-fashioned letter writing as the best way to communicate with your camper. Camper’s love getting regular mail from their family and friends! Campers write home regularly. In addition, parents may e-mail their children. Details on how to e-mail a camper can be found here. E-mails from parents are printed out and distributed to campers daily.
Campers are not permitted to make or receive phone calls. Please feel free to call your child’s Head Counselor or Division Head if you have any concerns. In the event of a genuine emergency, call the camp office at 570-798-2781. Cell phones are not to be brought to camp under any circumstances. Any cell phone found will be confiscated immediately. With prior permission, we will allow campers to call home for birthdays or major family smachot, weddings or births. Campers are able to make phone calls on trip days.
One of our primary objectives is to inculcate Torah values, healthy attitudes and good character traits in our campers. We request that you do not send expensive designer clothing to camp and that you limit the amount and kind of clothing to the enclosed list. In addition, we are committed to modest dress (tzniut). Clothing should not be loud, showy or short; rather, they should be the proper length and not be inappropriate. Shorts should be to the knees without letters or drawings in inappropriate places. No boxer shorts are allowed. All skirts must cover the torso and no tank tops, sleeveless or mini-skirts will be permitted. Sleeveless T-shirts are not permitted in the Dining Room at any time. We hope you feel the same way we do and we are happy to reinforce these Torah values with you. There is no need for jewelry in camp. Often such items get lost or disappear, generating unnecessary anguish to you and your child. Please keep in mind that we are not responsible if personal items are lost or stolen.
At Morasha, Shabbat is very special and must be reflected in our behavior and our attire. To enhance this experience, every camper and staff member must be dressed appropriately at all times, both in terms of tzniut and Shabbat. All male campers and staff members must wear a solid white or blue buttoned-down shirt (no 3-button polo shirts allowed), dark slacks (not jeans) and shoes (not sneakers). Girls must wear appropriate attire for Shabbat as well.
We will post a packing list outlining everything you need for the summer a several months before the summer. We strongly discourage campers from bringing any expensive electronic equipment or clothing items. Please do not send expensive watches, jewelry, cell phones, DVD players, iPods, cameras, portable gaming systems, or other valuable items. They can easily be lost or prove to be a temptation which some may find difficult to resist. Camp Morasha will not under any circumstances, reimburse parents for expensive items that are lost or stolen. Every child is to carry one trunk key with him or her. To ensure that our campers spend their time outdoors and are not distracted from our scheduled activities, DVD players are not to be used AT ALL in camp. Any DVD player found will be confiscated immediately.
Weekly laundry service is provided at no additional charge. Our laundry is returned to campers within a day and half. Dry cleaning facilities are not available.
Every-day trips and activities are included in the tuition. As campers may want to buy souvenirs or extra snacks, we do recommend sending a small amount of spending money to be kept in the office.
