1974-1983

When Nachum Segal was assistant head counselor and would yell out that it was time for Mincha...and never needed a mike to be heard around the boys campus! I was too young to fully appreciate what a special man my Sabba was at that time.

1976-1981

So many great memories from camp including meeting my husband. All my life's a circle (anyone?). One Friday night in Ilanot, we thought we had a bat in our bunk so our counselors came back to find a bunk full of girls with towels wrapped around our heads (sleeping soundly). Waterskiing and accompanying my group of Nitzis swimming out to the Kollel dock for their first time! And I never won a color war either. And making the biggest faux pas when I recommended the film, The Producers, to Rabbi Willig! Oy vey

I crack up every time I hear the name of "Bondi", because I always think of "going to do a Bondi" after a big meal on my way back to the bunk........

Also, whenever my wife stirs the soup before Shabbos I always yell, "from de bottom, from de bottom, from de bottom, G-d bless Amerika, right now right now right now!!!!!!!!!"  (for those who never worked in the kitchen, a famous Eli Benzaquen quote, yelled at the top of his lungs while stirring the soup with a large, filthy canoe paddle).  And no matter how hard I try, I can never do a good imitation  Eli's version of Havdallah, which I will never forget as long as I live.

Who remembers Shigella?  The ATP club?  Slim the driver (Kiddush Lebonyah, anyone?) Heres a good obscure quiz question....What was Slims favorite apertif? (Answer-  I think it was called "Gorilla milk", served at the bar at the Lake Como Inn.)

Anyone else with some old inside jokes or trivia tidbits, please join in......

The ruach on Shabbat is memorable - still wish I could be back round the Shabbat table with all my friends. Shiria was the best fun - wish I'd had the guts back then to get involved more partic now that I am part of the leading Jewish Male Voice Choir in UK! At least I got involved in staff plays!

Being a staff kid on visiting day: hanging out in the boys' bunks, working in the canteen and/or the canteen right, and checking out what other people's parents brought them!

Saul Newman

1978-1982

I think it was 1979? One morning we woke up for mifkad on boy's campus and we found a skunk had it's head stuck in a garbage can oustide of Bunk 1,2. Neil Wallin was the counselor of Bunk 2. After mifkad, Eddie Malinsky's son was called in to deal with the skunk. We went to davening and breakfast. During breakfast we heard the sound of a shotgun followed a minute later by the smell of skunk. When we got back to boy's campus we found out that the skunk's last act was to spray Neil's laundry hanging on the line on the side of the bunk.

I also remember the year that Rabbi Mordechai Willig challenged the incoming Morasha tennis counselor (who I will not name) to a game of tennis. With tzizit flying, Rabbi Willig beat him in match on Machon-Mechina campus that was one of the best attended tennis matches in my memory at Morasha. I guess Ed Staff was better paying than sports staff because Rabbi Willig stuck with his original job.

When punk was really big and the Sex Pistols were taking their ill-fated tour through the US, a group of Machon-Mechina punkers named Jacobs, Goldsmith, Walkenfeld, and Kellman had a smash hit in the pargod with their original punk hit: "I met a dead lizard on the road, got stepped on by a toad, dead lizard makes good meat, dead lizard's fun to eat."

Anyone remember the time the Haitian kitchen staff threatened to burn down the Bondi complex because the camp showed Blazing Saddles which used the "N" word?

As you can probably guess, I could go on and on.... When I first met my wife, who was from San Francisco and never even heard of Morasha, she used to complain that every 30 minutes I had to interject a "Morasha Minute" into the conversation because those were my salad days. Years of self-discipline had brought this problem under control, but the new Morasha website seems to have revived this character flaw.

1978-1987

So many amazing memories.....some that stand out: "borrowing" intercamp sing trophy, disconnecting all the camp speakers (with our counselors), playing basketball all day Tisha B'av, seeing my first shooting star on the alufim baseball field, roller skating in that tiny gym, and friendships that have lasted 30 years!

Natalie Merkin Williams (2002)

I met my Bashert as co-machon counselors in 2002!

Judi Adler Weiss (1974-1986)

I have many great memories, but two stand out in my mind. Black team was always a highlight of the summer, especially the year I was made general and was lifted into the mercazia on a stretcher to our black team cheer. Waterskiing in the evenings before dinner was also a favorite activity, except for the time we almost sunk to boat known as "s" night to those involved.

The Black Team!

Meryl Rosenfeld Strauss (1982-1993)

One summer there was a problem with the water and a few times there was no water in camp. Once it happened on a Friday and to get ready for shabbos we all took our soap and shampoo to the lake to "shower" for shabbos. I never appreciated the camp showers as much as I did on that Friday.

Amy Soled-Wasserman (1980)

Memories of the life long friendships made in camp and continue till today.

Tuesday, 30 November 1999

Debbi Goldschmidt Silverman (1969)

My parents brought our dog - a Beagle - to visiting day... and he managed to break loose of his leash and proceeded to run around the girl's campus like a canine lunatic, creating a few moments of hysteria & panic! :-)

Tuesday, 30 November 1999

Michael Schreiber (1981-1991)

Too many to count. Meeting my wife, my best friends to this day, and having the best days of my life.

Tuesday, 30 November 1999

Rachelle Rosenthal Zauderer (1979-1989)

Being color war General. No sleep for three days and the camp thought it was a treat to let us sleep in the disgusting visiting house to catch up on the sleep we missed the night color finished. Oh, and a funny memory, when Gotch was our Machon counselor, he would put ice cubes in his cereal and milk. Does he still do that?
